How can a teacher teach students how to search solutions for their programming problems on the internet after having learned the basics of programming.
When learning to program you first learn some concepts of programming, and after that you have to search solutions for your problems on the internet. This research is about helping these students (and their teachers) in developing a strategy to structurize this search process. A scheme was created using Steps abbreviated UPEAVL: Understand, Plan, Execute, Adopt, Validate and Learn. A web site is created containing more info per Step. The web site still evolves. Find it at http://programmersearch.swarm.pharocloud.com/ and feel free to send feedback or extra info! During the process a scheme was created, containing some Steps, originating from the Polya 'How to Solve it’-scheme (Polya was a famous mathematician), discussing it with several software teachers, try it out in several programming classes, and discussing the results with some colleagues. After that the idea was born to create a web site giving info about the search process and maybe even assisting students while searching. The official research is over now, but hopefully the site will continu to grow.
