In the football industry many resources are invested into turning young boys into high performing players in the world’s most popular game. Therefore, Philips Sport Vereniging’s (PSV) Sports Science & Analytics department asked the following question:
Is there any way to discover these high performing players in their early ages?
Currently there is no way to predict how young players will perform at a later age compared to their peers. Underperforming players can improve drastically during puberty, while the top players at a young age can fall behind after puberty. Our team is going to help them to achieve that goal by building machine learning models which could predict the performance of an individual player based on historical data.
